"Empty Orchestra/Digital Ghost"
What happens when someone stops posting? When you can't outrun the newest update?
We invent new ways to make our lives infinitely better. We think decay is the only thing worse than loneliness. We trash temples to technology that no longer serves us. But the ghosts and the vaporware and the flowers and the sheets always grow back.
Welcome to the orchestra pit after everyone has clocked out. Thank you for scrolling.
Brought to you by Andy Jarema, Kit Lascher, and Abby Stoiber.

A few of Andy’s notes from green group meetings:
Kit, “the page as experience”, using text creatively on the page like Jeff Van Der Meer, Dead Astronauts and The Southern Reach Trilogy
Abbs looked into anechoic chambers, true silence vs. perceived silence, we as human beings are always choosing what we listen to, Billy Collin’s poem “Silence”
Using soundscape ecology as a lens to think about silence:
I think humans tend to think of silence as the opposite of urban environments. Cities are noisy but nature is not. Silence is the absence of humans. But it is totally not.
Humans tend to co-opt nature in their quest for silence. Like they venture into nature in pursuit of silence.
But silence in nature is not necessarily a good thing. Silent Spring. Death.
Healthy ecosystems are noisy as hell
We also don’t want a “monoculture” of silence, we want diversity in the voices of the forest.
Silence as a power dynamic.
What happens in a silence of power? A vacuum is created and a leader feels the need to step in and take control.
Who are the voices that are being silenced? What stories are silenced?
