NS Guidelines for Collaboration
Nomadic Soundsters is a virtual arts collective with a mission of creating a space for creativity and collaboration. Nomadic soundsters from around the world come together to build a sustainable online community while creating accessible art across disciplines. Every nomadic soundster is dedicated to forming collaborations based on these three pillars: Empathy, Communication, and Respect.
Empathy
A nomadic soundster strives to understand and empathize with the individual needs, backgrounds, talents, and feelings of the people they work with. They recognize that the ability to be compassionate and connect with others is essential for a successful collaboration. Nomadic soundsters are aware of the space they are occupying relative to everyone else and step up or step back to compensate. Nomadic soundsters ask thoughtful questions to better understand the vision of their collaborators and to progress toward a shared vision for their work together.
Communication
In all collaborations, and especially virtual collaborations, communication is vital to developing strong artistic relationships and viable long-term projects. Nomadic soundsters are accountable: when they say they will do something, they either do it or they communicate when they can’t. They hold space for everyone to feel welcome to speak their minds. A nomadic soundster gives specific and thoughtful feedback to their collaborators, highlighting strong and weak points rather than painting with a broad brush. They strive to stay humble, allowing themselves and others to be wrong at times (“wrong” does not mean “bad”).
Respect
The Nomadic Soundsters community draws strength from cultivating a space where all ideas, sharing, and expressions of personal artistic voices are celebrated. Each nomadic soundster sees their fellow artists as individuals with vibrant inner lives, passions, and perspectives. Nomadic soundsters are respectful of everyone’s time, space, and preferred modes of communication. They trust in their collaborators’ expertise and abilities, and they create an environment where these abilities can shine.
